Calculating dosage is another essential part of making great edibles! It’s important to remember everyone has a different tolerance when it comes to consuming cannabis, and eating it effects everyone in unique ways. Using this method every time you make an edible helps consumers know what they are getting into. Of course, strain type plays a major roll in the effects of edibles as well, but knowing the dosage helps people anticipate how intense and how long those effects may be!
Steps:
1.Milligram conversion:
- find out what the THC percentage of your cannabis is. Lab tested cannabis will have this on the label but if its home grown you’ll have to estimate. It is not possible to estimate CBD with homegrown.
- Next, multiply the THC/CBD percentage by 1000 to find the total milligrams per gram
2.Calculating the Base Dosage
- Figure out how many grams of cannabis you’d like to use for an butter/oil/etc recipe.
- Multiply the number of grams by the milligrams per gram. This will determine the total amount of milligrams in your overall infusion.
- To get a closer estimate on how much is in an ounce of your infusion, Divide the total amount of milligrams by the volume of the medium your using (in ounces)
3.Calculating Recipe Serving Dosage:
- First figure out how much of the infusion you are using in a certain recipe. Covert it into ounces
- Multiply the amount of the infusion your using by the total milligram per ounce (from step 3 in section 2)
- Divide that number by the amount of servings in the recipe to get mg per serving.
