Infused Hot Chocolate

Now, if you’ve never put butter in your hot chocolate before you’ve truly been missing out on a whole new level of rich & creamy! I learned about this while canoeing the Rio Grande and camping under the stars with nothing but a sleeping bag and tarp (held up by the ores to provide shelter). Since we were traveling by canoe, we had the luxury of bringing a cooler with butter! Adding a little extra fat to the last meal or night-cap hot cocoa would help keep us throughout the night and really added to the whole experience. If I had canna-butter with me on that trip y’all know I would have used it! However, since then I have experimented with my hot chocolates quite a bit, and have found a much more “sophisticated” way to indulge in this drink.

We be making hot chocolate rather than hot cocoa for this recipe. Hot chocolate uses real chocolate where as hot cocoa is made using only cocoa powder. You’re welcome to skip the hot chocolate steps and plop some canna-butter or oil in your hot cocoa and call it a day too. This will still be delicious and similar to what I had camping. Going a few steps further to make your own hot chocolate will give it a richer, more complex, and indulgent taste whereas the cocoa can be a bit watery. The choice is yours and you’re always free to experiment!

Although I wouldn’t recommend consuming this every day, I think its a beautiful way to spice up your drinks a little bit and add some extra creaminess. Wether it be canoeing, car camping, coming back from a long day snowboarding/skiing/sledding, or just want a warm cup by the fire, this is going to get you nice and relaxed.

So cozy up with a cup of canna-butter chocolate!
